2002-08-26 Pretty crafty these anti-metric types. They spew their garbage in the form of humour. They poke fun at nations and supporters of SI and want us all to think it is sooooooooooooooo funny. I wonder what their reaction would be if a reporter from a metric country wrote about how "backwards" the Americans were for measuring with stone aged units. And even poked fun at Americans who can't even do simple math. I don't think the Americans would see the humour in it, anymore than I see the humour in this crap.
You guys have to wake up. You may think this is humour and that is what they expect you to think. This way you won't attack them back. With their method of humour, they are subtly convincing other Americans that metric is something to be mocked. Your average Joe Six-pack is going to take this as a good reason not to go metric or to resist it as much as possible. People like Robert Kirby won't have to worry about people like us undoing his damage. We will be too busy laughing and convincing ourselves it is all a very funny joke. Don't be surprised if propaganda like this has a long term effect of damaging any future attempts to metricate the US. But, as least you can all feel good that you got a good laugh at your own expense.
