In terms of # of passenger trips the USA leads the
rest of the World. Infact, nearly 60 % of the airline
tickets sold in the World were in USA, if you take
these top 30 airports as the parameter.
Total in USA comes to nearly 259 million while that of
the rest of the World is 195 million in a given year.
On the Star Alliance web site, an Australian airline indicated it was awarding "points" and not miles ... and Americans think they're getting statute miles anyway; the airlines generally award nautical miles since that's what they navigate with ...
