My understanding is that, reading in the direction of ancient to modern:
        1 BC Jan 1.....Dec 31
        ! AD Jan 1,,...Dec 31
In other words the next day after 1 BC Dec 31 was 1 AD Jan 1, 
Admittedly, I don't know the shape of the calendar in those days.
