Here in the UK we've had butter in multiples of 250 g for 20 years or more; Ireland still sells it on 227 g packs (sometimes the same brand). Whether this is a requirement of Irish law, I don't not know (UK law demand rational metric sizes). Car oil here has been sold in 5 litre packs for many years, yet a new product from Castrol comes in a 4.5 litre pack. Similarly, paint has been sold in 500 ml, 1 l, and multiples of 2.5 l for that last couple of decades, yet recently I see Dulux paint in 9 l cans.
