Pat   I think slashes are OK but for ^ numbers (powers) I would use this:-   If you press Alt and 0178 on the NUMERIC keypad, you'll get a � symbol. 0179 gives you �. I translated the unit the authors used into SI as 'joules per hour per kilogram or J/h/kg'. Knowing that the use of two slashes is not best SI practice, I considered J h^-1 kg^-1, but it looks clumsy especially for a popular (read sports) audience.
