Mike, the *only* SI "unit" of length in discussion here is the
meter.
Both the cm and the mm are *submultiples* of the meter.
The cm and mm are *not* "SI units" independent of the meter.
Call
them "submultiples" (not "units") if you accept the authority of the CGPM
to define SI terminology as documented in the BIPM Brochure.
Otherwise,
you are inventing MJ terminology which deviates from the
SI.
