Monitor and TV size is not simply a matter of metric or non-metric. The
difference of measurement system also gets mixed up with differences of
what is being measured. The tradition is to measure CRT glass size in
inches and LCD (and occasionally CRT) 'viewable size' in cm.

The difference in the two measures relates partly to the different
technologies of CRT and LCD. Early CRT's had a variable image size so
the glass size was a better measure. LCD's have always had a constant
image size because of the way they work and visible size has been used
in marketing rather than the glass size. Modern CRT's are more
consistent in image size and it is now common to provide this measure.

If you search the web you will find plenty of examples to illustrate
this, including the TV you mention.
