Schedule III of the (Canadian) Weights and Measures Act (1971) is headed "Units of Measurement to Describe Certain Land in Quebec" and says: Unit Definition foot (French measure or Paris foot) 12.789 inches

Any land deed in Quebec that says "pied" means "mesure franaise ou
pied de Paris", unless it is specified as "pied anglais". I have
personal kmowledge of that requirement. About 1958 my neighbor in
Lachine, Quebec, wanted to sell his house. It was 5 English feet from
my house but less than 5 French feet. This was contrary to a local
bye-law that specified a separation of "5 pieds". I agreed to
accept this violation.
