Garbage, Bob. The megagram is no more SI than the metric ton or tonne is allowed for use with coherent SI Units!



Footnote (d) to Table 6 in the metric bible states regarding the tonne "This unit and its symbol were adopted by the CIPM in 1879 (PV; CR, 93)".

I suspect that Gene would prefer the notation of the decree of 1793:

        grave                   kilogramme
        gravet                  gramme
