I'm making sure that anything I buy is metric and if it's not, I'll call or
write the company and tell them they are losing my business, because either
their product, or their product literature is not metric. I've had quite a
bit of success over the years trying to persuade people that yes there are
people in the US who use and want metric products, it's only by telling
manufacturers this that they appreciate the fact. I got BMW to send me a
brochure that included Metric, have not yet bought their product. Miele
sent me the installation instructions for a dishwasher, the original had
only inches. Told them they would lose my business, I bought the
dishwasher! It has the temperature in Celsius on the dial! Money talks,
especially big ticket items.

I've recently been working on National Public Radio for a year asking them
to leave reports with the original units, to include Celsius temperatures
in their weather in the Washington DC area where I live. I've recently
heard quite a few foreign correspondents who have given only the metric
units in reports from overseas, not sure if my request is having the
desired effect just yet. I made contributions to National Public Radio over
the last year, told them I was canceling my contribution until I saw less
censorship of foreign news units.

I've worked on United Airlines with some success, their inflight magazine
started to include metric units, but I see lately it's been slipping a bit,
maybe a new editor and they need another letter? If we all did this (I know
many of you do) then we do have an effect.
