I checked on that recently, since I don't want anyone taking me to task in the Physics course that I adjunct. Believe it or not, the online dictionaries (www.yourdictionary.com and www.dictionary.com ) do give equal precedence to both pronunciations, and I have to assume the traditional print dictionaries as well.
But I still say KILL-oh-meet-ur in all my classes, the other just makes no sense.
Nat.
I am glad that Nat is on the good side. My Shorter Oxford English Dictionary gives "Kilometre, -meter (ki.lometer)", which I understand to mean that the accent should be on the first syllable, while recognizing the American spelling.
