It's difficult to generalise, but there does seem to be an increased use of 
metric in the media. Shopping is certainly largely metric, though we still 
have TV and computer screens in inches, and I'm sure a lot of people who buy 
their produce loose in corner shops still think in imperial. At this time of 
year, Christmas trees are being advertised in metric (sometimes with imperial 
in brackets), but I saw some today in a garden centre in feet only, as were 
the conservatories on sale. At work, I see more people advertising things for 
sale with metric dimensions.
