Just wanted to point out site that addresses just this sort of problem:

The site states:

   field below, we will create a tiny URL that will not break in email
   postings and never expires.

You can even put a link in your toolbar which generates a tinyurl from
the address of the current page.

And no, I don't have any affiliation with the site. :-) Just thought it
would make life a little easier for the folks on this list.
