I've been browsing for pedestals to install seats with on my new boat. A
number of brands (made in America, by all indications) advertise that they
use the "standard 1.77 inch" diameter posts. Yep, that's 45 mm rounded off to
the nearest 0.01 inch. Go fishing, go metric!

And --- no surprise, my Yamaha F25 (18.4 kW) outboard takes a 14 mm socket to
remove the oil drain plug. I also find that many if not most electrical
device (switches, etc.) use metric nuts on their mounting shafts.
