Just heard a piece on NPR/ATC about new regulations going into effect in California to limit textbook weight, as student backpacks are supposed to be getting too heavy. Regardless of how you feel about the regulation (strong back/weak mind, etc) it would be a good place to introduce kilograms. Nothing drives home the "feel" of a few kilograms better than carrying them around on your back!
