I'm not Canadian but my son is and when we visit him I find that most (but not all) things in grocery stores, gas stations, on TV, etc. are generally totally metric. I do agree that flooring and plumbing seem to be more commonly in Ye Olde English mix, but generally I find Canada to be very metric.

Perhaps it is a difference between one part of Canada and another. My son lives in Alberta; I wonder where John Mercer lives. I have also travelled recently in Southern Ontario (between Niagara Falls and Toronto) and in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. I did not notice any non-metric measures there but I did not have much occasion to see any except on highway signs and in gas stations; they all seemed to be metric.
