Very Interesting. I didn't really find anything
overtly negative. There was the one Scotsman article that converted miles
to kilometres BWMA style to make them look silly. I would hope the public
is not that stupid to think it would really be that way.
This whole campaign makes me think of how metrication is
on the roll. We have some very positive changes taking place, as many
behind the scenes as there are in the public eye.
1.) The EU directive mandating metric only labels after
2010.
2.) The acceptance of 45 states out of 50 of the UPLR
3.) The amending of the FPLA in the US in the near future
to harmonise with the EU directive. This change alone will eliminate the
need for the EU to extend the directive yet another ten years. But again
with 45 states now allowing metric only labels, I see no reason for the EU to be
held hostage to the status of the FPLA nor the TABD.
4.) The conversion of Irish speed limit
signs.
5.) The conversion of clothing labels from the traditional
sizing system to the pictogram with metric dimensions. BTW, any news when
labels will appear on garments with the pictograms? I find it strange that
as many times as this question is asked, never an answer is given? Should
I interpret this to mean the pictogram label plan has been scuttled? UKMA,
you should be on the top of this and keeping us up to date with
information? Tell us what is happening!
Can anyone add to the list?
