Dear Governor,

I am very sad to learn that CAL-TRANS is about to waste a small fortune in tax payers funds converting from the metric system adopted in 1993 to the Imperial Units system. Perhaps you could explain why Children learn metric in school and at University, but go to work for a State Government Department that is going backwards.

The Feds may have made it optional but the long term trend is obviously metric around the world and the USA. Perhaps you could tell me the upfront cost and also give me something to say to my 9 year old daughter as I explain to her the metric system for her school work using an old text book.

I was recently in TN and that great state is moving to having metric markers on the highways. Is it about time that we allowed for the visitors from OS who have never heard of a mile.

RIP Cal-trans and the metric system in CA. I will enjoy writing to you in your next term pointing out the FEDS movement back to metric as metric is the legally adopted system for the US in the federal legislation.

Also Agilent in CA is one of the major sources of equipment for firms who want accurate metric stuff.

John Nichols (taxpayer)
