Scott's comment about the Christo article is important. Inspiration is the first ingredient in effective U.S. metrication, and a William Safire New York Times article last year suggested that metric prefixes were entering U.S. parlance more readily. But it still takes familiarity to breed consent, and too many Americans have not been sufficiently oriented to metric units. It falls to our youth, then, to make metric "cool." They can make "bling-bling" out of it.
