Dear John, The conversion is: 4 litres = 1.0566882 US gallons so 4 litres is about 6�% more milk than a gallon in the USA.
You might hardly notice the difference in size but it means that the milk industry would have to use a new container � you can't just fill the old container a little more as 6 % is probably too much for that. Another strategy is to rethink the size and design of the milk containers and how they are handled. For example, milk in Australia comes in 1 litre, 2 litre, and 3 litre containers and these are all designed to fit in the door shelves of modern refrigerators. This means that the milk is readily accessible for coffee and milk is rarely kept in the body of the refrigerator. I have also seen a 5 litre container here but they are rare.
