Scott,
I tend to agree with you - if the world-wide
medical profession agree on a particular system on units, then they should
be left as they are and as long as there is very little contact with the Chinese
and Russian medical profession, then the cost of the changeover could cost too
many lives to make it worth-while.
I remember readign a few years ago of an emergency
operation that was carried our on a British Airways flight from Hong Kong to
London. The operation was performed in a make-shift theatre by two doctors
who had never met each before the flight. They had to communicate and it
was essential that they used the same language.
