I have some friends who are very liberal, who think Bush is a monster – and if I suggest that there will ever be a day when inches and pounds and ounces and miles will go away they look at me like I am crazy.

Hmm. I am a republican with very strong views that we should go metric.
The longer we wait the more money it will cost. I guess I am a rarity. :^)

Same here.

I think it is more that this is NOT a republican vs democrat issue.  Sure it's easy for a liberal to scream its the GOPs fault when something doesn't happen they want to happen; likewise conservatives can try to blame liberals for all the woes of the world...the fact is, that doesn't make it so.

From what I can see neither party seems to care much for promoting metric.  Maybe one party is more guilty than the other, but I don't think this should be made into an issue where we bring up liberal vs conservative.  You can be conservative and be pro-progress.  You can also be a liberal and be anti-change and for the status quo.  We need to get support on both sides...not make it a partisan issue.
