I can't speak for either of them, of course, but I'd wager that they held the opposite view--that preventing metrication (except in specific areas such as science and medicine, etc.) would save the country the cost of converting.  In their hearts, I think they were American Supremecists of the "The world should speak English *and* measure in English (units) too!" variety, despite their opposing political views on other issues.  --  Jason
