He may be living abroad, but Duell was born in Oregon, and apparently has close
U.S. ties.

It's great that this item has made it this far. If you're an American who
participates in this discussion group, register and vote on this site (I see a
few familiar names already in the comment area). Though the executive branch
is less important than Congress on this issue, Obama's evident fondness for
science and reason is definitely cause to reiterate our own calls for change
(Obama's favorite word, after all).

It's really too bad, however, that the person who wrote this item on
change.org lives overseas, and that some others who provided positive comments
appear not to be living the the US either. Calls for US metrication
originating from abroad in such a forum, designed to let Americans appeal to
their government, do more harm than good. We need a lot of Americans voting
and commenting to try to offset that negative.

A statement about metrication has made it into the second round of voting at
Change.org (see
http://www.change.org/ideas/view/nudge_the_us_to_adopt_the_metric_system) . It
made third place in the Technology Policy category. Please consider
registering at this Web site and casting your vote in the final voting period
of 5 to 15 January 2009.
