I use the term "metrically challenged" for my friends and family. I don't use it in a confrontational way, but in a helpful way: "Our temperature here in sunny Florida this morning was an uncomfortably cold 1 ˚C. (That's about 34 ˚F for my metrically challenged friends.)" Yes, I know that it's less than perfect to convert for them, but after doing this occasionally for a while, I then can get away with using just metric sometimes, and maybe further along I can abandon Ye Olde English units entirely when speaking/writing to them.
