I always point out that "American" measures are actually obsolete and abandoned measures of the very country we rebelled against in 1776. We won our freedom from their rule, but not from their ruler. Apart from the origins of that measure, even that country has had the sense to move on from it and make more progress in adopting metric than we have.
Long silence follows. If any attempt at rebuttal follows, I point out that we signed the Treaty of the Meter in 1875 and are fully and democratically represented in the bodies that make decisions regarding the SI, rather than blindly following the obsolete measures of the very ruler we rebelled against. Longer silence follows. As for some of the other points, I don't want people walking on my product with their dirty feet so I should probably buy from metric countries. Also, not all their thumbs are the same size and that will NOT lead to identically-sized interchangable parts which can be assembled into high quality products. ________________________________ From: Pat Naughtin <[email protected]> To: U.S. Metric Association <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, January 17, 2011 4:10:17 AM Subject: [USMA:49531] The REAL Reason Dear All, How common is this? http://politicsnetnews.blogspot.com/2011/01/re-gingerymachines-re-metric-argument_6154.html It contains this quote: The REAL Reason: 7.
