Message sent this afternoon to another employee who posted accommodation
information on our internal Intranet, with dimensions in colonial units
only. This information was copied from our public web site, and is really
useful and comprehensive - except for one thing. Stuff in brackets wasn't
in what I sent her.

Hi _____________ - I found this link on the Library, Train Services page.
It's excellent, but there's two quibbles.

Dimensions

On the 3-D Tour pages, the dimensions of the rooms are given in colonial
units only. No other country uses these, and this makes it difficult for
our agents to understandably describe the rooms to anyone visiting from
another country. Would it be possible to add the standard (metric)
dimensions as well? I can help with the figures if wanted.

I've noticed the same thing on [our public web site], even when another
language is chosen. [Our public web site offers English, French, German and
Spanish options.] To someone from Germany, the description 3'6" x 6'6", for
example, is completely incomprehensible. I know that we want to communicate
with visitors from other countries using concepts that they know and will
understand.

The timetable text is user-friendly in that both standard metric, and
colonial, measurements are given. [It should be, I wrote it.]
