It's up to you if you want to believe the fruitcake who STILL beleives that pub
lager is sold metrically, Pat - it really doesn't bother me too much - just
that some people might actually believe him (having said that, the majority of
the list forum say they put his incarnations in the junk box so they tend to
miss out on his very odd view points).

If it's of any help - some packaged items have imperial beside metric too -
albeit not in great numbers, but the fact is - if I wanted to see the price of
a, say, carrots in pounds I can do so at my tesco. The metric is first and the
imperial is second - they both use the same font. I don't quite understand why
the fruitcake from the USA (Ohio) dreams of things in the UK that are just not
true. It gets even more bizzare when he then switches to saying that the UK is
'poor, in recession' etc because we use imperial a lot. He 'flip-flops' this
subject quite a lot if you check his history.

If you want 'proof' I'll try and ship a Tesco store out to you :-)

Steve

Is he referring to little me here? Such a lovely man, isn't he?

I see you're still waiting for proof of what he asserts to you about imperial
edging on shelves. I reckon you'll have a long wait!

  Pat,

If what Stephen says were true, he would not have to show anger and use terms
like "fruitcake" or references to location. His proofs would speak for
themselves, plus he would have other's support and they would back him up.
Neither of this has happened or will happen.

The UK is predominately a metric country. That fact has been verified. But
at the same time it is a country with severe financial problems exist, much of
it due to the exportation of jobs. If >20 % of the youths coming out of the
schools are unemployable due to innumeracy (see:
http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=6042996), one can connect it with
being unable to function in metric units. Despite being a metric country, the
type of resistance that people like Stephen employ counters any positive gains
from being a metric country.

Businesses who use metric internally will not hire people who can't function
in it. People who have learned in school but refuse to use metric outside the
school only adds to their innumeracy and their poverty. Thus the continued
depression and economic hardship despite the use of metric in the markets,
media, industries and elsewhere.

Therefore there is no contradiction to what I have stated.

One doesn't have to ship a Tesco store to you, one can simply supply
photographic proof as was done below. I'm sure if the proof existed, you would
have seen it by now. No proof, no truth, just another long winded pile of BS.

"... the fact that shelf edge imperial still exists and is printed in most
stores - strangely missed out down there!!"

I shop at a Morrison's supermarket almost every day and not once have I
noticed any "shelf edge imperial".

Every shelf (and just about every item) has metric measurements ONLY on them.

Mr Humphrey's knows this full well. Don't hold your breath waiting for
evidence to the contrary from him, though. He's quite fond of making these
claims, but, strangely enough, never presents any sort of proof whatsoever.

He's a troll anyway, and best ignored really!

Well, not a fact at all, but wishful thinking and knowing you might not
wish to verify his hope would be that you have no alternative but to believe
him. Well, don't! Here are a few links to some UK "shelf edge talkers". I'm
sure you can judge for yourself just how much imperial is marked. Let the
facts speak for themselves:

Labels from Tesco - The Imperial Store". Just look at all the imperial
measures!!!!!

You may wish to ask Stephen yourself if he can provide some proof of his
claim. Odds are he won't because he can't.

Just to remind you Pat that Stephen diverted over to this topic to distract
you away from the painful truth that his pub pint is served in a 570 mL glass
and not 20 ounce as he would like you and everyone else to believe. These same
570 mL glasses are available in Australia. Get some and examine them for
yourself.
