The Saturday editions of the (mailed) Wall Street Journal have been
running an interesting puzzle series lately. It's called Varsity Math
and it's provided by the National Museum of Mathematics. I haven't
looked at their puzzles (which are NOT extremely easy for me to solve!)
enough to be sure, but it seems that they are entirely given in metric
units. Today's, apparently the seventh in this weekly series, includes a
puzzle with distances specified in meters.
The National Museum of Mathematics has a website (momath.org) and
Varsity Math (weeks 1 through 7) can be found via a link there. The
museum is located in New York City (Manhattan).
It sure would be nice if the NCTM followed suit!
