Question 6 is no piece of cake. All three should be compulsory for BWMA, ARM, ACWM and the like. No true Imperialist would fail to answer correctly.
I would get "epic fail" on the Latin, Greek, History & Geography. With resources (open book exam), I could hack my way through the math sections. Why is an applicant to an American college expected to successfully manipulate British currency? 20 shillings to the pound, 12 pence to the shilling or do I have that backwards? Does the student at least have a table of logarithms? I would hate to do the long division, multiplication and root extraction solely by pencil and paper methods. Fortunately, I am from pre-calculator days and can still use logarithms when I need more accuracy than a slide rule, but I don't even remember the method for manual root extraction, I'd have to use Newton's method. I doubt that many Brits would know where to start with this one, let alone Americans. -----Original Message----- From: USMA [mailto:usma-boun...@colostate.edu] On Behalf Of c...@traditio.com Sent: 25 December 2015 00:24 To: USMA List Server Subject: [USMA 49] Metric in 1869 Harvard Entrance Examination 1869 Harvard Entrance Examination: graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/education/harvardexam.pdf Note Question 8 under Arithmetic.
