Subject: QIP DNS/DHCP upgrade

Jim Saunders has asked that I share the following information:

We have learned that QIP 3 is not Y2K compliant. We have a QIP
consultant on site to help us upgrade to a compliant version.
This Saturday at about 5:00 am. we are planning on upgrading both
QIP DNS/DHCP services on NS1 and NS2. We will be moving from the NT
platform to a more robust Unix environment. We expect about a 1 to 2 hour
down time where there will be no DNS/DHCP services while the new servers
boot up and the old ones are taken off-line.

We are doing this on Saturday to give everyone a chance to inspect
their systems to make sure everything like the aliases and the mail
exchanges are working correctly before Monday. If everything goes well, Jim
Saunders will be in on Saturday until noon. Jim will be available during
this time to fix any problems you may encounter. If you are concerned,
please check out your systems before noon. If you encounter an emergency
after Saturday noon, you can contact Jim through the data center operators
at 8-4341.

This new version of QIP has a Web client instead of the
client/server app used in the previous version. After the upgrade your old
QIP client interface will not work. The Web client can be accessed after
the upgrade at:

        http://ns2.byu.edu/qip_main.html

Your QIP id and password will remain the same.
