I can't say I blame the guy. No OS without Microsoft's support is going
to be an easy, comfortable, system to use for someone who doesn't want
to tinker all the time. If you just want to browse the web, write
email, and run games, Linux may not be for you. Perhaps some form of it
will be in the future. That's one of the fun things about Linux, it's
always changing and people are always doing new things with it. Even
this guy is still using it for the things at which it currently excels.

My primary desktop at home for the moment is an upgraded old Mac I got at
a surplus sale and upgraded. It's running OS X, and it's wonderful for
my standard web browsing, IMing, and assorted other things. I like
having web pages rendered as beautifully as PDF documents. Even with
antialiased fonts, no X-on-Linux display even comes close. Plus I've
got my terminal windows, a rootless X server for those local and remote
X apps I occasionally need, and lots of other goodies.

I, of course, still use Linux for lots of things. I also use Windows
occasionally, but as little as possible because it really doesn't have
much to offer me beyond what I get from OS X and Linux. I just wish
more people used and recognized Mac OS and Linux as real alternatives.
Interoperation on the part of Windows would be a necessity, and most of
the problems I have with it would go away. The world would be a better
place. ;)
