samba is an implementation of utilities for the Microsoft Windows SMB
network file sharing (don't tell OIT that you're using file sharing
apps! shhhh!) protocol; it has nothing to do with setting your hostname.
dhcpcd is a DHCP server. You are not dishing out IP addresses; you are
requesting one.

You need to configure your DHCP *client* to include your requested
hostname in the request for an IP address to the DHCP server. You can
find out how to do that by reading the man page for your DHCP client.
For example, if you use ``pump,'' you can specify what hostname you want
from the command line with the ``-h'' flag.
