In my experience, NFS is even more complicated to set up than Samba.
With Samba, at least one side (Windows) works consistently with a
minimum of headache.  With NFS, it's a pain to set up both the client
and the server, and NFS problems are even harder to debug than Samba
problems.

Plus, I would bet that a Windows NFS client performance probably isn't
as good as the SMB client performance.
