I'm using your time server (time.cs.byu.edu) so I hope it's not
poisoned!

Hmm. Don't know right now the clock is working. I'm not using my
external disk. I'll try it tomorrow and see if it starts misbehaving
again.

date has always returned the correct time. I think this is because I
can't run it over and over fast enough to catch the jump (the jump
occurs once ever second or so and it's usually for only about 250-500
ms. I'll have to try hwclock. ntpdc shows normal syncing against
time.cs.byu.edu. Since I've been running ntp for the last year off your
server, I imagine it has computed a pretty accurate time adjustment and
now only syncs every hour or so.

since date calls gettimeofday(), I imagine if I could run it over and
over again fast enough it would pick up the change.

Not that I know of. I'm going to make sure I know what triggers the
problem (like is it the drive?) before I go much further. Then I'll
probably have to contact the driver maintainer and find out if there are
any issues that would be caused by the firewire code.

thanks.
