Hello,
I have protected a directory on my web server (apache 2.0 on RH linux 8.0) and here is what my httpd.conf file looks like.
<Directory "/var/www/html/admin/admin">
AuthType Basic AuthName "Administrators Only" AuthUserFile /usr/local/httpd/passwd/password require user tony </Directory>
I have used the htpasswd -c path/filname user to create a user and password. When I try to access that directory from my browser it asks me for username and password but when I supply the credentials it gives me this error:
Authentication required!
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the URL "/admin/admin". You either supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.
In case you are allowed to request the document, please check your user-id and password and try again.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster
Error 401
Any help would be very appreciated!!
Tony
