I dont' know much about jetdirect. LPR may allow anyone to print, but it
_doesn't_ advertise it and doesn't allow clear text admin over http. I
liked CUPS, but decided to go with LPRng because I didn't feel like
taking to time to lock down CUPS.

Anyway, it was too much of a pain going between my work CUPS and home
CUPS setup. Advertising was supposed to make it easier, but would
occasionally break. As for admining, if you want web based configuration
use Webmin and make yourself a certificate. Apache is much easier to
lock down--and more appropriate in my opinion.

Maybe Rendevous and Zeroconf will improve things. I don't know.

Just my $.02
