While I dont' use gentoo, could you narrow things down on which card/chipset 
you are using?  my SMGL is working great with orinoco's, and I could send 
that part (which would be the same), but probably not much good if you use a 
different chipset.
Also, what version of wireless tools and pcmcia are you using?
