Threading is the best way. Just pay attenting to the threading section
of the gtk FAQ.
Point noted. Looks like it's time to re-write this program in C instead of perl. The latter was fine when it was a simple yet un-intuitive command-line program. Then I hacked in the GUI using GTK-perl, and it was still okay, but not great. Now it's starting to get out of control...
