It's been several years since I've forwarded anything of this nature,
but I figured this one deserved to be immortalized in the uug-list
mail archives.

Q. How many mailing list members do you need to change a lightbulb ?
A. 1692 (!)

1 who changes the lightbulb and sends a mail to the list telling them that
it has been changed.
14 who made similar experiences and reply how to change the bulb much
better.
7 pointing out the risks of changing lightbulbs.
27 pointing out grammar and spelling mistakes made in the previous lightbulb
mails.
53 flaming the previous 27.
156 writing a mail to the list admin, complaining about the lightbulb mails
that should be banned from the list.
41 correcting the 53 flamers.
109 writing to the list that it is not a lightbulb list, and further
discussion should be made in alt.lite.bulb
203 asking for to stop crosspostings to alt.grammar, alt.spelling and
alt.punktation
111 defending the mail, pointing out that everyone uses lightbulbs what
makes them on-topic again
306 debating about which changing method is the best, where to find the best
lightbulbs, what kind of lightbulbs are the best and which brands are crap.
27 posting URLs for pages where to find images of lightbulbs.
14 replying that those URLs are wrong, sending the right ones in exchange.
3 mailing links they found following those URLs that are relevant for the
list, proving that lightbulbs are important for the list as well.
33 gathering all mails in one post, quote them completely (including header
and footer) only to add "Me too" at the bottom.
12 announcing they will quit the list because they can't stand this
lightbulb discussion anymore.
19 quoting the "Me too"s, adding "Me three".
4 suggesting the posters should read the lightbulb faq.
1 suggesting to create the newsgroup alt.change.light.bulb
47 pointing out that alt.physic.cold_fusion is the right newsgroup for this
topic
143 posting that creating that newsgroup is a good idea.
27 sending "unsubscribe" to the list, not understanding that they should
send their mail to the list server rather than the whole list.
42 mailing useless pictures of all kinds of bulbs to the list.
78 complaining about that.
1 having problems reading all the picture mails because of his lousy modem /
harddisc / computer.
1 suggesting a live irc chat in #bulbs, giving up after one week of waiting
for response.
5 suggesting an own mailing list for the never ending "lightbulb" topic.
35 giving their ok (on list of course).
126 being against it, letting everyone on the list know about that.

And 1 mailing that in his humble opinion the lightbulb had not to be changed
at all...
