>In Red Hat 9, the monitor goes to a power save mode after about 10 min.
What you need is a robotic key presser. Basically, we'll construct a microprocessor that will, every 9 minutes or so, instruct a key actuator to quickly press the shift key (or any other benign key.) It would seem to me the easiest approach to foiling that pesky screen saver.

Speaking of cool machines, if you didn't know already, the BYU MOA opened a cool exhibit last night called Poetic Kinetics. Basically they are perpetual Rube Goldberg machines. If you like gadgets, complex machines, etc. this is the (FREE) exhibit for you. It's open till 6:00pm today and from 12-5 tomorrow. Kids would love it, and so will you. http://cfac.byu.edu/moa/?flash=current Someone on campus should stop by and verify that I'm accurate in my description of this exhibit as the coolest thing I've seen in a while.

Things to look forward to: a life-sized guy on a bicycle that petals and steers all controlled from one electric motor. The guy is made of springs and metal odds and ends all welded together. It's on the main floor.

The basement (the main exhibit) has a variety of extremely intricate and huge displays (the main machine is at least 30 feet long and probably 15 feet high.) The displays toss, shoot, sling billiard balls etc. and create quite the visual pyrotechnics.

Not that any of us are actually social, but if ever you wanted a free date, this is a cool one. You can spend 20 minutes in front of each machine figuring out how they work.

(Sorry for not answering your question. I tend to tangentiate frequently)
