I have to show a little solidarity for Steve here. His comment was absolutely correct 
-- it's unnecessary to type echo before phpinfo. The message was germane to the 
question at hand and represented best practices for php coding -- it didn't appear to 
me to be be pointless or showing off. I'm really surprised at the vitriol directed at 
him for trying to be helpful. 

Perhaps some apologies are in order.
