This is an off-the-wall guess, but I think it also might have something (however small) to do with their inability to keep google images blocked without blocking google and google news. It's been comical to watch google news go from blocked to unblocked and back several times an hour over the past couple of weeks. (I keep it as my homepage and it reloads itself, so I notice when it goes into the unblocked state)
In any case, I agree that we are capable of filtering ourselves and using google images responsibly - especially considering google's quite good safesearch filters which make it unlikely to get bad stuff accidentally. * Jon D.
