I've written about this before, but now I've realized I can't play
bzlfag, so it's altogether much more important to fix. I have two
computers, both Mandrake 9.1. One I'll call the router, the other the
laptop. The router has 2 network cards, the laptop one. eth0 of the
router is hooked to the cable modem, eth1 to a hub. eth0 of the laptop
is also connected to the hub. I used Mandrake internet connection
sharing wizard to get the laptop connected through the router to the
internet. Everything works great, except, I can't ssh from the router
to the laptop, and the laptop cannot connect to a bzflag server running
on the router. Upon further investigation, it doesn't appear that a
bzflag server running on the laptop can be reached from the router
either. I would be less confused but a webserver running on the laptop
can be reached from the router, as well as the little webserver run by
cups on the laptop can be reached from the server.

Additional information that may be helpful: Shorewall is not running on
the laptop. I've pulled up ethereal and ssh packets never make it to
the laptop from the router. I've read the iptables manpage and looked
at the output of iptables -L -v and haven't been able to make much sense
of it. I can ssh to the router from the internet, as well as access web
pages it is serving.

Ssh would be nice, I really want to be able to play bzflag on my little
home network. What else would a little home network be good for?
