As far as the "usual" machine, this one that's throwing fits *is* the usual machine (the only one I've ever used the drive with under linux). I don't have the ability to boot from Knoppix right now, but if I can't get it resolved today, I'll bring in my Knoppix CD on Tuesday (when I get back in town) and try that. I'll try the drive with my laptop when I get home tonight, too.
