I will not be manning the booth, but . . .

I'm especially in favor of open source software that has clients for
both Windows _and_ Linux. I'm trying to wean my family off of Microsoft
software while they're still on Windows -- so that when they're ready
to switch to Linux, all their familliar apps are already there.

OpenOffice.org is an excellent choice along these lines -- and probably
very high on the utility scale for students. As is Mozilla. But I think
that most students are going to be _heavy_ into multimedia (and a good
multimedia client may be a better "attention grabber" than an office
suite). This is why I inquired about MPlayer on the SSS discs.

I basically suggest baiting them with OpenOffice, and then moving on to
other Free Software as time or circumstances permit. Feel free to
comment on it this time, especially if you will be manning a booth.
