SciLab may be of use too.  It's a more general package, but it is
supposed to be feature-wise compatible with Matlab.  You can get it for
windows and Linux at http://www-rocq.inria.fr/scilab/

Scilab comes with a lot of cool demos.  It can even run matlab
programs.  Not sure about Minitab or SAS compatibility.  Scilab also has
a GUI, more or less, which is a little bit better than R's user
interface.
