I am really trying to accomplish all that want to with my file server
with what hardware I have. I am running a Pentium classic 200MHz.
Recently I wanted to add some USB functionality. I discovered pins for
USB connectors on my motherboard, so I went and bought the cables. The
cables appear to be hooked up correctly, but when I plug in a device, it
will never fully connect to it. For example, when it works properly, my
camera will blink while its trying to connect and then light solid when
it's connected. In this case, it will blink for 30 seconds and then
turn off. So I know that power is getting there, but I don't know if
the ports are being recognized. lspci doesn't show a USB controller.
The syslog doesn't show that any ports are detected when I start hotplug
(as it does when it works properly in my other machine). The pins on
the motherboard are clearly labeled USB1. Could it be that there is a
jumper that needs to be switched to enable USB? The pins are laid out
in two rows of five, and I am connecting one USB cable to each row of
five. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks,

Casey
