Last night, I started up my computer, and gdm started up like normal. I logged in to my kde session, and it began starting up. Then it got to the "Initializing peripherals" part, and never passed that point--the "Initializing peripherals" icon just continued blinking. Finally the startup window with all the startup sequence icons disappeared, and I was left with my background and my mouse pointer.
I made no changes to hardware during that time, and I don't recall even doing any "apt-get upgrade"s. I have checked every log file, and nothing seems out of the ordinary. I tried using kdm to log me in, and that didn't change anything. However, when I start a gnome session using either kdm or gdm, it works fine. Any suggestions? Casey
