Here are a few things that have been running through my mind for those who are helping out tomorrow:
1) If you can bring an extension chord and power strip that would really help out. Remember to label any cables that you bring so they don't get eternally lost. 2) If you can bring an extra monitor that would also be helpful. Some people are only going to bring their boxes so it would be nice to have a few extras. I'm going to bring my monitor and a 4 port KVM. 3) REMIND PEOPLE TO HAVE THEIR DATA BACKED UP. I'll bring an external USB 250MB zip drive for any last minute backups. It's better to be on the safe side. 4) We've burned a whole bunch of RH9 cds but I'm sure that a few are going to have problems. Whenever you do an install for the first time with a set of cds make sure you do the disk check on them. It will take a few more minutes but it's better than a dead install. 5) We got a copy of Partition Magic 8 (we were using version 7) for tomorrow. 6) Make sure to run updates on their machines after installing them. Probably the best thing to use is apt4rpm (in my opinion). Show them how to do it so they can keep their boxes secure. 7) Invite them to get on the newbies list and ask questions. 8) If you have the time give them a quick tour of how things work. Remember, there's no MS Clippy to show them around! See http://www.microsoft.com/Office/clippy/ for more details. The flash cartoons are worst I've ever seen... Any thing else we should remember for tomorrow? I'm expecting a lot of people to come. Let the installing begin! -Evan -- /********************************************************************\ Evan McNabb: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://evan.mcnabbs.org System Administrator, CS Department, BYU GnuPG Fingerprint: 53B5 EDCA 5543 A27A E0E1 2B2F 6776 8F9C 6A35 6EA5 \********************************************************************/
